Explore coverage for 15 listed games. The table shows which rules, glossaries, and cards are available. Agents can read available sources over MCP and cite them.

Eight tools. Every question a rules adviser gets paid for.

No endpoints to memorize and no scrapes to babysit — an agent discovers coverage with list_games and works from there. Every answer ships with its citation.

search_rules
Ranked full-text search across comprehensive rules, errata, and release notes — every hit cited with document, heading, and line.

Read any rules document in full, or jump straight to the section an agent needs by heading.

Read-only by construction

The tool surface has no write path at all. It serves rules text, glossary entries, and card records — nothing an agent does can create, change, or delete data.

Rate limited before work happens

Every HTTP client gets a token bucket — 60 requests a minute, burst 30 — checked before a query runs. Over the limit means a clean 429 with Retry-After, not a dropped connection.

Stateless and self-hostable

One process, no database, no session state. Serve it over stdio to a local agent or run streamable HTTP on /mcp; answers are capped so no single request can monopolize it.

Connect an agent

Point an MCP client at https://api.tcg.online/mcp for streamable HTTP, or run the zero-dependency Bun server from The Card Goat repository over stdio. Self-host HTTP with --http when you need a private endpoint.

Stdio — local agents

The standard MCP registration: one command, one process, pipe-sized trust boundary.

HTTP — remote agents

Canonical production URL is https://api.tcg.online/mcp — streamable HTTP, rate limited, with a /healthz probe. Self-host with the command below if you need a private copy.

Questions agents ask before agents do

What is the TCG Knowledge MCP server?

It is a read-only MCP server. AI agents can search the published game rules, errata, glossaries, and card catalogs through eight tools, including search_rules, search_cards, and get_card.

Which games are covered?

The table on this page lists available rules and glossary files and card counts for each indexed game. Preview cards are marked.

Is the server safe to expose to an agent?

Yes. Its tools only read public data. They cannot create, change, or delete data. HTTP requests are rate limited and answers have size limits.

How do I connect an agent today?

Connect an MCP client to https://api.tcg.online/mcp using streamable HTTP. You can also run the server from The Card Goat repository with Bun over stdio or host it over HTTP.

Does it cost anything?

No. The server is free, open source, self-hostable, and rate limited.

Start with the games, stay for the rulings

Use the indexed rules and card files to explore the available content for each game.

Built in the open

The TCG Knowledge MCP server is developed alongside the engines and catalogs it serves, so card text and rules coverage stay in lockstep with the platform. Coverage gaps are recorded, not hidden — the same policy the server applies when an agent asks what it does not have.
